CIT Advanced Training –  A one-day class for first responders

This program is part of a series of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Advanced Training Programs. It is a one-day class to assist first responders in providing assistance and support to Veterans in crisis and Veteran Co-Workers

This is an 8 hour course on Military & Veterans issues specific to Law Enforcement and Emergency Response.  It progresses from basic knowledge to bring all participants up to the same level of fluency in Veterans issues and culture, then moves into more advanced discussions concerning various traumas, including:  Post Traumatic Stress, Combat, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Military Sexual Trauma, Suicide and others.

To address these hallmark traumas, we discuss resources and benefits available to Veterans regardless of how and when the served, and what challenges they may be presenting, and  conclude with practical tools and methods for law enforcement and first responders to approach situations that may involve Veterans or Veterans in crisis.

By the end of the training, participants will:

  • How military service and culture impact Veterans as civilians

  • The hallmarks of military service to build relationships upon

  • What you need to know about military service to support Veterans experiencing crisis

  • How PTSD, TBI, MST, and other traumas impact Veterans lives even decades after their service

  • How to engage Veterans in a truly resource rich environment.  Includes basic intel on what resources are available for Veterans

  • Veterans as co-workers: what’s important to remember for recruiting, training, disciplining and motivating

Cost: $150 per person

Elective Hours:  8 elective hours through DPSST
